Dr Sikhulile Moyo
Biography
Doctor Sikhulile Moyo, the Laboratory Director of the Botswana-Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership, is Medical Virologist who has worked in Research and Academia for over 24 years. He holds an MSc in Applied Microbiology (University of Botswana), Master of Public Health (Medical University of Southern Africa/ University of Limpopo), and a Ph.D. in Medical Virology (Stellenbosch University). Dr Moyo is currently also a Research Associate with the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, Boston (USA), and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences. Dr Moyo currently serves as Co-Chief Scientist with the Presidential Taskforce for COVID-19 in Botswana. He serves as principal/site investigator and co-investigator in a number of studies at the Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
His research interests are focused on the characterization of acute and primary HIV-1 subtype C infection, pathogen genomics & phylogenetic analysis, basic/implementation science research in Hepatitis, SARS-COV-2, Human Papilloma Virus, Norovirus, Tuberculosis, HIV cure & HIV reservoirs, molecular epidemiology of HIV-1C infection, drug resistance, dynamics of viral evolution, design and evaluation of cross-sectional methods for estimating HIV incidence, including improved accuracy and incorporating analysis of HIV diversity and estimation of transmission time into multi-assay algorithms. He has authored over 152 peer-reviewed publications & 1 book chapter contribution and was recently credited among the first to discover the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
