Dr Svein Rune Andersen

Scientific Director for Vaccines at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Norway

Biography

Dr Svein Rune Andersen (Dr. Sci.) is Scientific Director for Vaccines at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Norway. 

Prior to his current position Dr. Andersen was employed at Norwegian Medicines Agency (NOMA) for 19 years and filled various roles such as Norway’s representative to EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), Vaccine Working Party (Vicechair from 2017-2019), Biologics Working Party, Emergency Task Force and Scientific Advice Working Party.

He was the head of the Section for Biological Medicines and Vaccines, NOMA for nine years. The Section was responsible for assessment of applications for marketing authorizations concerning vaccines and Official Control authority Batch Release for vaccines to the European market.

Dr. Andersen has been a member of Expert Group 15 (Human Vaccine and Sera) of the European Pharmacopoeia, EDQM, since 2006. He has been the Chair of Expert group 15 since 2016.

Between 2019 and 2021 Dr. Andersen was on secondment to Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) as the Head of Regulatory Affairs – Europe, where he was responsible for supporting vaccine developers in regulatory matters and interactions with regulatory authorities.
