Biography

Chair, Nigeria AMR Coordination Committee and National IPC Programme Coordinator, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Nigeria

Dr. Tochi Okwor has over 18 years of leadership experience in public health and IPC at global, regional, and country levels. She pioneered the institutionalization of IPC in Nigeria by establishing the National IPC programme, known as "Turn Nigeria Orange." This initiative employs a phased approach using Orange Networks to set up and support the formation of IPC committees and teams at the state and health facility levels. As a result, IPC programs have been established in the 36 state ministries of health and the Federal Capital Territory.

Under her leadership, Nigeria's Antimicrobial Resistance Coordination Committee (AMRCC) was formed as a One Health committee with full quadripartite involvement. Dr. Okwor also led the creation of Nigeria's second AMR national action plan (2024-2028). She serves as the Co-Chair of the WHO Mpox Clinical Management and IPC Guideline Development Group and is a member of the Ebola Virus Disease and COVID-19 IPC Guideline Development Groups.
