Dr Ximena Aguilera
Biography
WHO Commissioner on Social Connection
Dr. Ximena Aguilera, MD, MPH, is the current Minister of Health of Chile. She is a specialist in Public Health with a Master's degree in Public Health and completed her residency in International Health at the Pan American Health Organization, where she also served as Senior Advisor in Communicable Diseases (2008-2010).
Prior to her ministerial appointment, Dr. Aguilera was Director of the Center for Epidemiology and Health Policy at the Faculty of Medicine, Clínica Alemana - Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile.
Her previous roles at Chile's Ministry of Health include Chief of the Health Planning Division (2005-2008) and Head of the Department of Epidemiology (1999-2005).
Dr. Aguilera has extensive international experience with WHO, including consultancies and participation as an expert in international meetings on SARS, pandemic influenza preparedness, communicable disease eradication and elimination, Universal Health Coverage measurement and monitoring, and implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005). She participated in the WHO mission supporting the SARS outbreak response in China (2003).
Additionally, she has served as a consultant for UNDP, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the World Bank across several Latin American countries.
