Dr Janneth Mghamba
Biography
Dr Janneth Mghamba is the Health Advisor, working with the Commonwealth Secretariat. She oversees the Health Portfolio which spans from UHC, Health Security and Non-Communicable Diseases.
Prior to this role, Dr. Mghamba worked the Ministry of Health in United Republic of Tanzania, as an Assistant Director for Epidemiology and Disease Control Section, and the IHR NFP contact person.
Her major accomplishments while working with the Ministry includes her leadership role in facilitating the first ever Joint External Evaluation (JEE), a key milestone for the country as well as across the globe. This piece of work has led to initial WHO JEE related documents which have assisted many countries.
She has co-authored the WHO Benchmark for IHR core capacities, a key document which is currently being used for JEE. Further, she has pioneered the development of WHO AFRO Technical Guidelines for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (2019), blending it with the experience from the JEE. Her technical contributions have been extended to the regional bodies, where she has been part of technical working groups leading in the development of regional preparedness and response plans.
Dr Mghamba, is a medical doctor with two Master degrees, both majoring on Epidemiology, one obtained from the Witswaterand University in South Africa and the other from Jomo Kenyatta University in Kenya.
