Dr. Quinton Meyer

Director of the South African National Control Laboratory for Biological Products (SANCLBP)

Biography

Dr Quinton Meyer is the director of the South African National Control Laboratory for Biological Products (SANCLBP) based at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He joined the SANCLBP in 2010 as a scientist and was responsible for batch-release testing of bacterial and viral vaccines. Dr Meyer was appointed as the director of the SANCLBP in 2020.

He is a member of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) biological medicines expert advisory committee and a vaccine quality evaluator for SAHPRA since 2013.

Dr Meyer has been a WHO consultant for quality assessment of vaccines for prequalification and emergency use listing since 2022 and a member of the WHO expert advisory panel on biological standardization since 2023.

He is also a member of the African Medicines Quality Forum (AMQF) sub committee on vaccines and biologics laboratory testing. He has a background in research and development, vaccine quality control, biological assay validation, and biological medicines regulation.
