Professor Edwine Barasa

Edwine Barasa is Executive Director of the KEMRI–Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya and Professor of Health Economics at the University of Oxford. His research spans health financing and universal health coverage, priority setting and resource allocation, economic evaluation, and health system governance, and resilience, with over 170 peer-reviewed publications. His work has underpinned Kenya's UHC reforms, advanced the concept of health system resilience, evidence-informed priority setting, and strategic purchasing and contributed landmark evidence on health insurance in low- and middle-income countries. Prof. Barasa has served in advisory roles with the World Health Organization and the World Bank, chaired the advisory board of the Africa CDC Health Economics Division, and chaired the Africa UHC Commission. He serves on the Executive Board of Health Systems Global, is Health Economics Editor at BMJ Global Health, and is a founding editorial board member of the Africa Journal of Health Economics and Policy.
