Biography

For more than two decades, Dr Erlina Burhan, MSc, PhD, has served as a pulmonologist with a primary focus on lung infections, primarily working on TB. As a leading expert, she practices at Indonesia's foremost centre for TB care, the Persahabatan National Respiratory Referral Hospital. Dr Burhan has been instrumental in initiating and advancing the drug-resistant TB programme in the country, including the early introduction of shorter treatment regimens. Over the past decade, Dr Burhan has been pivotal in promoting the public-private mix for the delivery of TB services in Indonesia. She holds a prominent position on the advisory board of multiple non-governmental organizations dedicated to TB care and stands as the Chair of the professional coalition for TB in the country.

Her expertise further extends to academia, where she lectures at the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Indonesia. Her remarkable contributions include pivotal roles in over 20 clinical and observational trials in Indonesia and authoring more than 60 books on pulmonology and respiratory medicine. Beyond her clinical and academic pursuits, she actively educates the public on TB elimination and works towards eradicating the associated societal stigma, leveraging social media platforms to amplify her mission.
