Dr Faryal Khamis
Biography
Dr Faryal Khamis is a Senior Consultant and Head of Subspecialties, as well as the Deputy Director of Internal Medicine at the Royal Hospital in Muscat, Oman. She chairs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, and she actively participates in international, regional and national committees and task forces under the Ministry of Health in Oman. She is also a member of the Oman National Bioethics Committee.
Dr. Khamis graduated with honors from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in 1993. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA, in 1999, followed by fellowship programs in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
An accomplished researcher, Dr Khamis has authored numerous publications in scientific journals. Her primary research interests include respiratory viral infections, infections in immunocompromised patients (including those with HIV), antimicrobial stewardship, and SARS-CoV-2. Through her work, she continues to make significant contributions to the fields of infectious diseases and internal medicine.
