Biography

Dr Fatima Aziz is a genomic epidemiologist currently serving as Manager of Research at Aga Khan University, Pakistan. With a strong foundation in genomic surveillance and infectious disease epidemiology, she plays a critical role in leading and coordinating research initiatives aimed at understanding disease transmission dynamics in low- and middle-income countries. 

Her work focuses on leveraging molecular tools and genomic data to inform public health strategies, with particular emphasis on outbreak investigation and pathogen surveillance. Fatima’s contributions have been integral to advancing the use of genomics in real-time public health decision-making and improving disease monitoring systems. 

In addition to her research leadership, she is deeply involved in promoting and implementing biosafety and biosecurity best practices across laboratory and field operations. She ensures that research activities adhere to the highest standards of safety, ethical compliance, and operational integrity, supporting both scientific excellence and workforce protection.
