Biography

Dr. Geminn Louis "Gelo" Apostol is a physician, educator, and researcher specializing in Environmental Public Health and Climate-Resilient Health Systems. He currently leads the Environmental Health, Sustainability and Global Health Security program at the Ateneo Center for Research and Innovation (ACRI) in the Philippines, where he leads evidence generation and translational initiatives aimed at making the health impacts of climate and environmental change visible and actionable. Over the past decade, Dr. Apostol has led and served as a consultant to various national, regional, and international environmental health initiatives—from developing the Philippines’ National Environmental Health Action Plan (NEHAP 2030), establishing the Philippine One Health Action Plan, building evidence on the impact of climate change on infectious diseases, mainstreaming air pollution control strategies, and raising public awareness on the health impacts of environmental toxicants. Most recently, Dr. Apostol led the development of the Philippine National Action Plan to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through a One Health Approach (PNAP-AMR).

 

He currently leads research, advocacy and coalition building efforts on the intersection of AMR and Climate Change, and AMR and Vaccination in the Philippines. Dr. Apostol received his double degree in Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health and is a One Health scholar and Post-Graduate fellow at Murdoch University - Australia. He completed his MSc in Global Public Health from Queen Mary University of London, and completing his PhD at James Cook University Australia
