Mr Geofrey Jagero

Biography

Geofrey Jagero, a Senior Technical Advisor – Global Health Security at the Division of Global Health Protection, United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) Kenya and is a Kenyan national. A microbiologist by training, Geofrey provides technical assistance and support to the Ministry of Health (Kenya) - National Public Health Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) towards strengthening of the national laboratory system. With public health experience in the field of biomedical research spanning 14 years investigating a wide range of vaccine preventable infectious disease pathogens including diarrheal, respiratory and hemorrhagic fever viruses, he has substantial cutting-edge skills in laboratory biological techniques. He has also played key roles in large disease outbreak response initiatives both in-country and in neighboring states. 

His areas of focus at the ministry include ensuring compliance to the International Health Regulations core capacities of Biosafety & Biosecurity and the national laboratory system where he provides technical assistance in the development, review and implementation of legal and regulatory framework for key policies and guidelines towards epidemic preparedness and rapid response.

Geofrey is a Certified Professional in Biosecurity & Biorisk management by the International Federation Biosafety Associations of Canada (IFBA); he is also a certified Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Biosafety & Biosecurity (BSBS) by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, a mentor in the IFBA Global Mentorship Program and a serving member of IFBA Certification Body. Previously, Geofrey worked as a researcher at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, the University of Maryland Baltimore as Biosafety Biosecurity Technical Lead and as the Martin Luscher High Consequence Infectious Diseases facility manager and Biosafety advisor at International Center for Insect Physiology & Ecology.
