Biography

Mr. Gerard Lopez has worked over the last 18 years as a data specialist for the World Health Organization, the United States government’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and cooperative agreement partner organizations in the design and implementation of public health digital information systems. He has worked on over 35 public health projects, ranging from simple outbreak investigations to sentinel surveillance and international level data aggregation to household surveys and complex facility-based surveillance surveys. This work has been conducted in over a dozen countries in Africa, Latin America, the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, with more extensive involvement in Kenya, Guatemala and Thailand. These projects have been in a variety of subject areas including international health statistics, malaria and other parasitic diseases, influenza, emerging and nosocomial infections, Zika and post disaster surveillance. Mr. Lopez holds a Masters degree in Public Health Informatics from Emory University and has a background in computer and information sciences centered on data collection, management, analysis and visualization.
