Gillian McKay is a global health researcher and consultant with a specialty in primary and secondary impacts of epidemics (particularly Ebola and Covid-19).  Gillian contributes to research, implementation and policy in the fields of epidemic disease, sexual and reproductive health, community engagement, and gendered inequities in humanitarian crises. 

She worked with the World Health Organization in 2019 in North-Kivu during the Ebola outbreak as an IPC specialist and in case management at the Butembo Ebola Treatment Centre. She has also worked with the International Rescue Committee, Save the Children, UK-Med, GOAL Global and others.

Gillian is currently a Doctor of Public Health candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where she studies the impact of outbreaks on reproductive health.  Her thesis research took place in Sierra Leone, engaging with women and health workers to understand barriers and facilitators to accessing/providing family planning care during the 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic.

Gillian has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  She is fluent in French.
