Gloria Giraldo
Biography
Gloria Giraldo (Colombian/Canadian) is a Microbiologist, Master in Epidemiology from the University of Antioquia, Colombia; a Nurse Specialist in Oncology, from the University of Buffalo, USA; Specialist in Burden of the Disease from the University of Harvard, USA. Currently, she is a Senior Scientific Evaluator at the Marketed Health Products Directorate of Health Canada in Ottawa, Canada.
She has international experience in oncology research, epidemiology of infectious diseases, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance. She coordinated and conducted clinical trials, including analysis of quality of life. Her experience in pharmacoepidemiology, and in pharmacovigilance of commercialized products, includes: Evaluation of risk management plans and periodic benefit-risk evaluation reports, signal management, and the application of methodologies for risk-benefit assessment and for health research and risk communication. Currently, she works mainly in the pharmacovigilance of vaccines, rare diseases, and vaccines/therapies related to COVID-19, and provides technical support to the Pharmacovigilance Network of the Pan American Health Organization, the Uppsala Monitoring Center (UMC) and the International Society of Pharmacovigilance ( ISoP), and serves as a member of the Pan-American Committee for Safe Vaccination (COPAVASE). January 2022 to July 2023, she served as a member of the WHO Advisory Committee on Safety of Medicinal Products COVID-19 Therapeutics Sub-committee.
