Biography

Gunta Lazdane, MD, PhD is Professor in Reproductive Health and Senior Researcher in the Institute of Public Health at Rīga Stradiņš University, Latvia. From 2003 until 2017 she was leading the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Programme in the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe and a chief-editor of the European magazine for Sexual and Reproductive Health “Entre Nous”.  Her primary areas of interest are sexual and reproductive health policies, quality of SRH services including contraception and abortion, sexuality education and adolescent SRH.  Prof Lazdane has been a member of Governing Council of International Planned Parenthood Federation, a member of scientific committees of many congresses and conferences, a member of editorial boards of several scientific journals. For meritorious service to Latvia Prof Gunta Lazdane has been awarded the Order of the Three Stars of the Republic of Latvia (2021). For outstanding international recognized activity in contraception, abortion, sexual and reproductive health, she has received the European Society of Contraception Medal (2018).
