Hamisi Msagama
Biography
Hamisi is a trained pharmacist with a Master of Science in Global Health from the United Kingdom. He leads the One Health Society in Tanzania, an NGO that champions the fight against antimicrobial resistance through Policy advocacy, Community engagement, and Youth Capacity development. His journey in the fight against AMR began in 2018, when he was a Pharmacy student who volunteered for various public health campaigns to raise awareness about the rational use of antibiotics in Tanzania. He later became the President of the Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association, where he led over 3000 pharmaceutical students in a National campaign on AMR awareness and education and commemoration of World Antimicrobial Week (WAAW) as a member of the National Technical Working Group to implement the National Action Plan on AMR.
Building on this foundation, Hamisi advanced his AMR passion and leadership through the One Health Society, where he spearheaded the establishment of the Tanzania Parliamentarian Alliance for AMR. In this role, he leads the secretariat that trains and empowers 15 members of Parliament to advocate and influence AMR-related policies and interventions across sectors.
Hamisi has demonstrated the impact of youth engagement in addressing Antimicrobial Resistance, especially with his goal to advocate for more youth engagement in influencing policies due to their rich grassroots experience and innovative minds.
