Professor Hidenori Arai
Biography
Hidenori Arai graduated from the Kyoto University School of Medicine in 1984 and earned a PhD from the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in 1991. He is an internationally recognized geriatrician and gerontologist with over three decades of leadership in aging research, clinical science, and health system innovation. He has been providing national strategic leadership in aging policy, research, and service innovation. He also has an extensive experience in translating scientific evidence into national and regional policy, leading large-scale research platforms, and contributing to global scientific consensus-building as the President of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG). Highly cited researcher (Top 1% by Clarivate, 2021–2025). Chairperson, International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Asia Oceania Region since 2026.
