Yun‐Chul HONG
Biography
Professor Yun-Chul Hong graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea and obtained three specialty board certificates of family medicine, preventive medicine, and occupational and environment medicine. Currently, he is the chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine.
Professor Hong has published more than 270 research articles and commentaries in international academic journals since 1996. Recently, he co-authored a book, Atmospheric Pollution in the Asia Pacific: Science-based Solutions, with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme. He is a member of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology, the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, and a policy advisor to the WHO. He also leads the Air Pollution Thematic Working Group (TWG) of the Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment. Professor Hong published a book entitled The Origin of Diseases (Nova Science Pub Inc) in 2015, which provides a novel perspective on the way of understanding why diseases exist. He also published another book entitled The Changing Era of Diseases which elaborates how to end humanity’s suffering from diseases and addresses challenging issues to be faced in the future.
Professor Hong’s main contribution to the Western Pacific Region Technical Advisory Group on Climate Change, the Environment and Health is in the areas of air pollution and health and occupational health.
