Dr Huong Thi Giang Tran
Biography
Dr Huong Thi Giang Tran is the Director of the Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and the first Vietnamese woman appointed to this role.
Dr Tran has more than 34 years of experience in the health sector of Viet Nam and international public health. Prior to joining WHO, she served for 11 years as Director General of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health of Viet Nam, leading major public health programmes and managing technical cooperation with development partners. She has held key regional and global leadership roles, including Chair of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Health Development, Chair of the APEC Health Working Group, and alternate member of the Executive Board of the World Health Assembly.
Dr Tran is a medical doctor specialized in pediatrics, with a Master of Public Health from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and a PhD in Public Health from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Viet Nam. She was appointed Associate Professor in 2016 and previously served as Deputy Head of the Global Health Department at Hanoi Medical University.
