Ingrid Schoeman
Biography
Ingrid Schoeman holds a Master’s degree in Dietetics from the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. She is currently the Director of Advocacy and Strategy at TB Proof in South Africa. TB Proof’s mission is to combine stories and science to work towards a shared goal of a world free of TB.
In 2012, she was working as a dietitian in public hospitals where she developed drug-resistant TB. Her own experience of having TB changed her life. Today, she remains a strong TB advocate, passionate about high-quality person-centred high-quality TB care for all, free from stigma and discrimination. She has remained actively involved in advocacy, strengthening the role of communities and civil society within strategies and global response to TB.
She has participated as a member of various WHO Guidelines Development Groups on the management of drug-resistant TB as well as other strategic advisory functions. From 2016 to 2023, she served as a Board Member of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) as well as the Chairperson of The Union’s Community Advisory Panel.
