Dr Janine Kimpel

Janine Kimpel is group leader and deputy Director at the Institute of Virology at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. She is a virologist and received a Diploma and PhD from the Goethe University Frankfurt. 

Her research group is working on vaccine vectors against infectious diseases such as HIV or persistent human papillomavirus infections and mechanisms of action and limitations of viral vaccine vectors. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been involved in SARS-CoV-2 epidemiological and clinical studies. She is particularly interested in cross-neutralizing antibodies and antigenic characterization of SARS-CoV-2 variants.
