Biography

Dr Jason Kindrachuk is the Vice President of the National Microbiology Laboratory Branch, Public Health Agency of Canada, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, University of Manitoba, Canada. He obtained his BSc (2001) and PhD (2007) from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, with subsequent postdoctoral fellowships at the University of British Columbia (Dr. REW Hancock), Canada, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (Dr Peter B. Jahrling), USA.

Dr Kindrachuk’s academic research program focuses on emerging and re-emerging viruses associated with public health emergencies, including orthopoxviruses, ebolaviruses, coronaviruses, and influenza viruses. His laboratory focuses on the circulation, transmission, and pathogenesis of emerging viruses, including community-partnered and One Health approaches. These investigations have helped inform emerging therapeutic strategies, outbreak prediction, and preparedness & response efforts.

Dr Kindrachuk leads multiple emerging infectious disease research investigations and consortia, including the International Mpox Response Consortium (IMReC). He has also served as a subject matter expert and advisor on numerous national and international emerging infectious diseases working groups and advisory committees.
