Jocelyn DeJong

Biography

Jocelyn DeJong is a professor of public health at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.  Since 2021 she serves as Associate Provost of the university, leading efforts related to graduate education and research as well as scholarships.  Since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, she has conducted studies on the effects of conflict and forced displacement on women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health.  She led a review commissioned by WHO-EMRO on health and migration in the Eastern Mediterranean region that was one of 6 regional reports informing the first WHO Global Report on Health and Migration (2022).  She also led the successful proposal to the International Development Research Centre to establish a university chair in forced displacement.  She has received research funding from WHO (EMRO and HQ), IDRC, ILO, UNDP, UNFPA.  She holds a BA from Harvard University, an MPhil in Development Studies (with a focus on health) from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, and a PhD in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
