Professor Joe Tucker

Joseph D. Tucker is Professor of Global Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a physician-scientist whose work focuses on the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through implementation science, social innovation, and community-engaged research.

His research uses participatory approaches, including co-creation, crowdsourcing, and other collaborative methods, to improve the development, delivery, and evaluation of STI services. He has led studies on STI self-testing, decentralized diagnostic services, and innovative strategies to increase the uptake of STI testing and care.

He is Co-Director of a WHO Collaborating Centre on Social Innovation in Health, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Sexual Health, and founder of Social Entrepreneurship to Spur Health (SESH). He has contributed to WHO guideline development and advisory processes in a variety of roles, including as chair and member of guideline development groups.
