John Norrie
Biography
Professor John Norrie is Professor of Health and Social Science Methodology in the Centre for Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland. John is a medical statistician and clinical trialist, and is dedicated to improving health and wellbeing, particularly through randomised controlled trials. John has led the academic Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in University of Edinburgh (2016-2024) where he held the Chair of Medical Statistics and Trial Methodology, and Aberdeen (the Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials, CHaRT 2003-2008 and 2011-2016) as Professor of Health Services Research, having spent over 15 years in the University of Glasgow CTU (the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics), where he was Professor of Biostatistics. John is involved in global health initiatives on a range of clinical issues, including respiratory (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia) and medical devices (Malawi, Uganda), and intensive care (China) amongst others. John is formerly (2019-2024) Chair of the MRC/NIHR Efficacy and Mechanisms Evaluation (EME) Funding Board and provides independent oversight for landmark trials (Trial Steering Committees and Data Monitoring Committees). John was elected Fellow Society for Clinical Trials (FSCT, 2015) and Faculty Public Health (FFPH, 2018), and the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE, 2022).
