Dr John Pastor Ansah

Areas of Expertise: Systems thinking

Biography

Dr John Pastor Ansah is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Community Health Integration, School of Medicine, at Case Western Reserve University. His research uses computational modeling—with Systems Thinking and System Dynamics Method— as the foundation to understand complex health systems issues better and inform policy and interventions to improve population health with active stakeholders’ participation. Dr Ansah’s research emphasizes the development of simulation models—that are rigorous, evidence-based, and customized to the optimal use of stakeholders— to address strategic and operational health and social care challenges and evaluate health system-wide impacts of complex health and social care interventions to inform intervention development. Broad areas of interest are primary care, chronic diseases, health and social care for the elderly, population health, and health workforce planning. Dr Ansah has a background in Systems Science, with specific training in Systems Thinking, System Dynamics, Health Policy Modeling, and Health Services Research. As Principal Investigator and co-investigator on several competitive grants, mainly in Singapore, he developed his skillset in engaging stakeholders to uncover and understand complex system behaviors within the healthcare system and developing insightful and policy-oriented models to inform interventions. He has successfully administered projects, collaborated with local and international researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications. He also taught Health Systems Modeling to undergraduates and graduate students, including Ph.D. candidates and Preventive Medicine Residents. Dr Ansah have conducted Health Systems Modeling workshops for analysts and professionals from Singapore, Cambodia, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
