Josephine Bundoc

Biography

Dr Josephine Robredo Bundoc is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician in the Philippines, with a special interest in assistive technology. For the past 30 years, she has been mentoring medical and allied health professionals on the basic science and clinical application of safe functionality with the use of assistive devices. Cognizant of the gap in access to prostheses and orthoses, Dr Bundoc undertook island missions that enabled early identification, appropriate provision, monitoring, and follow-up. She then created assistive technology and rehabilitation reimbursement packages within the national health insurance system so cost would no longer be a barrier to access for the indigent and underserved. Challenged by the limitations brought about by the pandemic and the Philippines’ archipelagic geography, Dr Bundoc utilized digital technology for mobile app community screening and referral, remote scanning, central fabrication, real-time monitoring of use, and the viability of 3D printing as an alternate form of assistive product provision.
