Labour Economist in the Health Labour Market and Partnerships team

Biography

Dr Juana Paola Bustamante Izquierdo joined WHO in 2019 as a Labour Economist in the Health Labour Market and Partnerships team. In this role she provides specialized technical support to countries undertaking health labour market analysis, research and the use of analytical methods to provide evidence-based policy advice. She leads the hub on the health labour market (HLM) and the work on productivity and performance of health workers. Juana Paola also oversees work on the impact of COVID-19 in human resources for health (HRH) and policy response as well as the analysis of job creation in HRH programmes.

She is an economist with a PhD in Economics and she also holds a Master's in Development Economics and a Master's in Environmental Economics. Before joining WHO, Juana Paola worked at the international level with the ILO and the World Bank (IFC), and at the country level in Colombia in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Ministry of Finance and National Department of Planning.
