Kerry MacQuarrie
Biography
Kerry MacQuarrie is the Director of Research (Senior Advisor for Research and Analysis) at The Demographic and Health Surveys Program (DHS Program). In this role, Dr. MacQuarrie is responsible for developing and executing research agendas for the advanced analysis and synthesis of DHS Program data, through DHS analytical studies and methodological reports and qualitative studies.
She contributes to data quality assessments and developing and testing measures using DHS data. Dr. MacQuarrie also trains counterparts in low-and middle-income countries to analyze DHS data and contributes to strategies to facilitate the use of DHS data globally. She has overall responsibility for the DHS Fellows Program and workshops. Trained as a demographer, she earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Washington. Dr. MacQuarrie’s research interests are in the area of fertility and reproductive health, particularly topics at the intersection of reproductive health, gender equality, and youth.
Prior to joining The DHS Program 10 years ago, Dr. MacQuarrie worked with Avenir Health, the International Center for Research on Women, the World Wildlife Fund, Save the Children, and CEDPA, among others.
