Dr Khondkar Siddique-e Rabbani
Biography
Dr Khondkar Siddique-e Rabbani is an Honorary Professor and former founding Chairperson at the Department of Biomedical Physics & Technology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has also been serving as the founding President of Dhaka University Telemedicine Program (since 2015) and the founding President of BiBEAT Ltd (since 2013), an ownerless social enterprise manufacturing locally developed medical devices. He is a member of the Technical Standing Committee of the Medical Device wing of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, the Government regulatory body in Bangladesh.
Dr Rabbani earned his bachelor’s (1970) and master’s (1972) degrees in physics and PhD (1978) in microelectronics. Since 1978, he has designed and developed most of the specialized equipment required by his team's biomedical engineering and physics research, leading to several internationally acclaimed innovations in electrical bioimpedance and nerve conduction. This experience allowed him to lead the development of medical devices that are specifically suitable for resource-limited settings.
Having a long experience in technology innovation and policy formulation, as a STAG-MEDEV member, he strives for equitable access to quality medical devices globally through the development of indigenous capability at the country level.
