Biography
Kolita Kamal Jinadasa is an internationally recognized analytical chemist with over 20 years of experience in food and environmental safety, toxicology, and laboratory accreditation. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Science and Technology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where he developed rapid analytical methods for mercury and arsenic speciation in food. He currently serves as Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic & Ocean
Resources in Sri Lanka and is also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Crete, focusing on nanoplastic screening methodologies. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa is a Biomedical Engineer at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), contributing to international health and laboratory infrastructure projects. From 2023–2027, he serves as an expert committee member of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), providing scientific guidance on food safety. His technical expertise spans nanotechnology, trace metal analysis, and mass spectrometry, and he has led multiple ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories.
A prolific researcher, he has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers and six book chapters, and has supervised numerous postgraduate theses. His work continues to shape global policy and practice in food safety and public health risk assessment.
