Kristine Macartney
Biography
Professor Kristine Macartney is a paediatrician specialising in infectious diseases and vaccinology. She is a medical graduate from Australia and also worked in the United States and United Kingdom. She was a foundational member of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Professor Macartney is currently the Director of the Australian National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS), a paediatric infectious disease consultant and a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. Her research interests include translation of evidence into policy and practice, vaccine safety, and all areas of vaccine preventable diseases research, particularly in viral diseases. She is senior editor of the Australian Immunisation Handbook and >270 peer-reviewed publications. She is the chair of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Advisory Committee on Vaccines, a member of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), and several other peak national committees. She is a regular expert consultant to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a member of the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) since 2021 and a member of WHO SAGE working groups. Professor Macartney leads Australian disease and active vaccine safety surveillance networks and developed NCIRS Global and the Australian Regional Immunisation Alliance (ARIA) that support >12 countries across the IndoPacific region in immunisation system strengthening.
