Lara Nasreddine
Biography
Dr Lara Nasreddine is a Professor of Nutrition at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, where she also serves as Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board and coordinates the Public Health Nutrition graduate program. Her research interests focus on dietary assessment and the investigation of diet as a determinant of obesity and cardiometabolic health, with an increasing focus on the paediatric and adolescent population. She has authored over 140 peer-reviewed manuscripts in international journals and several book chapters.
She conducted national food consumption and early-life feeding surveys, validated dietary assessment tools, and evaluated dietary intakes and adequacy across diverse population groups. Over the past decade, she has established a record of professional service to the WHO, FAO, IAEA, and UNICEF, including membership in UNICEF’s Technical Advisory Group on School-Age Children and Adolescent Nutrition Metrics. In collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, she has led systematic reviews on the nutrition situation and policy landscape in Eastern Mediterranean countries and spearheaded the development of food-based dietary guidelines for several countries in the region.
She won the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers, is an elected Associate Fellow at the Académie d’Agriculture de France and received the AUB Board Designated Professorship Award.
