Biography

Prof HSU Li Yang is Director of the Asia Centre for Health Security at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. Trained as an infectious diseases physician, his research and policy interests span antimicrobial resistance, health security and global health. His current work focuses on strengthening regional capacity to address catastrophic biological risks, advancing regional research partnerships across Asia, and developing strategies to sustainably address antimicrobial resistance.

Li Yang has served in multiple local and international expert committees on research and infectious diseases. In particular, he co-chaired Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 infectious diseases workgroup, helped develop Singapore’s National Strategic Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance in 2017 and 20025, and helped developed Singapore’s National Clinical Trials Strategy as a member of the Clinical Trials Strategy Committee in 2019.

 In his past life, Prof Hsu was an avid chess player. He is currently President of the Singapore Chess Federation.
