Lien Bruggeman
Biography
Lien Bruggeman is the National Health Coordinator at Fedasil, the Belgian federal agency responsible for the reception of applicants for international protection. She has spent many years working abroad with and for internally displaced persons and refugees from different origins. For several years, she coordinated health projects to ensure the transition from emergency to post-emergency health care. Promoting the health of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons has been a common thread through her work. In Zimbabwe, she worked closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure access to HIV care for people living in one of the districts. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, she has put in place primary health care projects for internally displaced persons. She holds a master’s degree in Medicine from Ghent University and a postgraduate degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. Each country and each individual should aim to promote, provide and protect health and wellbeing for everyone.
