Linah K Mohohlo
Biography
It is with
profound sadness that the WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All convey
that Linah K Mohohlo, the Chancellor of the
University of Botswana, and former Governor of the Bank of Botswana (1999–2016),
passed away on 1 June 2021. The Council was fortunate to have Linah with us as
an inaugural Council Member, for a short time. Among
other engagements, she served as a member of Tony Blair's Commission for Africa
(2005) to address Africa's chronic indebtedness of the time. She also
co-chaired the World Economic Forum for Africa in 2011; and Forbes Africa
ranked her one of Africa's most influential women. She was the recipient of a
number of national and international awards, such as Central Bank Governor of
the Year Awards and Botswana's highest public service award in recognition of
efficient and devoted service (Presidential Order of Honour). Her passing is
a huge loss to everyone connected with the Council, and to society for which
she did so much.
