Biography

Dr Loice Achieng Ombajo is an Infectious Disease specialist and Senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics. She is Co-director of the Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi.

She has served as a member of the WHO working group of the AWaRe categorisation of antibiotics for the essential medicines list and is a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on drug evaluation.

Loice leads work in AMR surveillance and surveillance of invasive Candida infections in Kenya, she has led the development of antibiotic use guidelines in Kenya and leads work in antimicrobial stewardship.

She is involved in development of HIV treatment guidelines and in HIV research where she is currently leading large clinical trials in HIV treatment. Her focus is on supporting data driven clinical and public health policy decisions.
