Lul (Fadil) Raka is Professor of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control at the University of Pristina “Hasan Pristina”. Since 2006, he has led the Kosovo program for AMR and HAIs. His research focuses on the antimicrobial use and resistance, HAI, and patient safety.
Prof. Raka’s educational background include degrees in medicine, a Master’s in Public Health, a PhD in Medicine and specialization in medical microbiology.
He was part of several international AMR research projects. Presently, he is managing a project financed by ICARS, aimed at implementing an antimicrobial stewardship program in primary care in Kosovo.
Dr. Raka is a member of the expert panel of the Global Antimicrobial Stewardship Accreditation Scheme (GAMSAS), an accreditation body established by the BSAC, UK. He has contributed as an Advisory Board member for the several international bodies (GASPH, INICC, EUNETIPS, EUCIC).
During the pandemic, he served as a Chair of the Advisory Board for COVID-19 in Kosovo. Whereas, during the Ebola outbreak in 2014, he served as WHO consultant for IPC in Liberia. His academic contributions include numerous papers in international journals, professional monographs, book chapters and translations into local language.
