Mariana Socal

Biography

Mariana Socal, MD, MS, MPP, PhD is an associate scientist in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Socal's research focuses on improving coverage, affordability and access to medicines. Dr. Socal has extensive experience with pharmaceutical pricing policies, having served as a senior technical advisor on high-cost medicines at the Rio Grande do Sul State Health Secretariat in Southern Brazil. Dr. Socal also worked on various health systems strengthening projects in Mozambique, Angola, and El Salvador. Dr. Socal regularly advises the U.S. government, Congress, and states on initiatives to reduce drug spending and increase access. Expertise: pharmaceutical pricing policy, drug access and affordability, drug coverage and formularies, pharmaceutical supply chain.
