Professor Martin Boeree
Biography
Martin Boeree, MD, PhD, FRCP Edin, is Professor in Clinical Tuberculosis and other Mycobacterial Diseases. After specialisation as a respiratory physician he went to Blantyre, Malawi to join the College of Medicine. He headed the Department of Medicine from 1996-2000. He built experience with the treatment and research of tuberculosis and served as advisor for the National TB Program of Malawi. In 2001, he joined the Radboud University Medical Centre Nijmegen and was Director of the TB referral Hospital Dekkerswald from 2005 until 2010. He was Chair for the Dutch Society of Tropical Medicine and the Federation of the European Societies of Tropical Medicine and International Health. He is national consultant TB for KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation and the Dutch Thoracic Society. He is coordinator of the EDCTP funded PanACEA consortium focusing on new and old drug development, especially on the optimization of the rifampicin dose. Since 2001, he coordinates the large Innovative Medicine Initiative-funded UNITE4TB consortium focusing on mid stage TB platform trials.
