Mr Michael Akanji

Biography

Michael Akanji works on human rights using a public health approach for sexual minorities and is a sexual health and Rights Advocate with over a decade of experience on LGBTI issues and interventions in Africa. 

He is a 2015 Fellow of the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) on LGBTI Human Rights and Advocacy of the US government, A member of the Nigerian National HIV Prevention Technical Working Group and the Co-coordinator of the African Regional Key Population Expert Working Group.   

A recipient of the Ambassador of Goodwill award from the state of Arkansas, US, in 2015 for his LGBTI advocacy in West Africa and received a certificate of recognition from the office of the Speaker of the Legislature in the State of California that same year.  

Michael Akanji is currently the Project Lead with Heartland Alliance.
