Biography

Dr Michael Wilson is Professor of Pathology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Director of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Denver Health, the safety net health system in Denver. He has been an academic pathologist for over 30 years.

Dr. Wilson graduated from medical school and trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He trained in Medical Microbiology at Duke University. His research interests have included the laboratory detection of bacteremia and fungemia and diagnostics in general Medical Microbiology.

Since 2008, Dr. Wilson’s academic focus has been on the problem of access to diagnostic services in low-income and middle-income countries. He was a lead author of the Lancet Series on Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Low-Income and Middle-Income Countries and is currently Deputy Co-Chair of the Lancet Commission on Diagnosis. He has served as a WHO adviser on the Expert Group for Priority Medical Devices for Cancer Management. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Clinical Pathology.
