Dr Michele Montandon
Biography
Michele Montandon, M.D., M.Sc., has been a Medical Officer in the Maternal and Child Health Branch of the Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since 2016, and Maternal Infant HIV Team Lead since 2021. In this role, she supports CDC country programs, working in partnership with Ministries of Health, to optimize maternal and infant HIV services with the goal of reaching elimination of mother-to-child transmission. Current areas of focus include scaling up pre- exposure prophylaxis as a HIV prevention option for pregnant and breastfeeding women and HIV-exposed infant cohort monitoring.
Prior to joining CDC, Michele worked as a physician with the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative in Tanzania and Malawi, with Médecins Sans Frontières in Nigeria, and on medical education and HIV community research initiatives in Kenya and South Sudan. Dr. Montandon is a graduate of the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine with an Area of Concentration in Global Health, is board- certified in family medicine, and received a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and Masters of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
