Mitsuru Ohsugi

Biography

Dr Mitsuru Ohsugi currently serves as director of Diabetes and Metabolism Information Center (DMIC) at National Center for Global Health and Medicine, which is the model health institution to provide both services and advice to health care communities and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan.

Dr Ohsugi was graduated from Tokyo University Faculty of Medicine, completed internship at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, proceeded to Internal Medicine residency at University of Hawaii and then finished Diabetes, Endocrinology and Medicine fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, where he also conducted basic science research. He maintains board certificates in both areas.

After returning to University Tokyo Hospital, Dr Ohsugi extended his basic research on pancreatic beta cell and expanded his field to clinical research including international collaboration.

Now as director of DMIC, Dr Ohsugi is responsible for analyzing clinical data collected from a large-scale diabetes registry (J-DREAMS) and claims database (NDB), and the outcome has been used for the revision of national guidelines of diabetes management in Japan.

He is also a member and adviser of the WHO Collaborating Center of Diabetes Treatment and Education as well as a member of Medical Scientific Advisory Committee for ICD-11 revision.
