Biography

Dr. Mooyoung Han holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, Korea. He earned BS and MS degree from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at SNU, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin. With a career spanning over 40 years, he is a licensed Professional Engineer specializing in water and wastewater engineering, water quality and treatment, and rainwater harvesting and management.

As a distinguished member of the International Water Association (IWA), Dr. Han not only contributes significantly to the field but also assumes the role of chair for the IWA Rainwater Harvesting and Management Specialist group. His expertise is well-documented in over 120 scientific papers, focusing on rainwater harvesting and particle separation, integrating both theory and practical applications.

Dr. Han has been instrumental in implementing impactful projects, particularly the Community-Based Rainwater for Drinking (CBRD) initiatives in Health Care Facilities and Schools across Southeast and Pacific Island countries. Beyond his academic pursuits, he has played a key role in shaping the UN Water Action Agenda. Notable among these initiatives are the "Rain School Initiative in Monsoon Region to Overcome the Climate Crisis" and the "Rain School Initiative through BiTS and Skywater Committee," demonstrating his commitment to local actions that contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6).
