Niranjan Khambete
Biography
Dr Niranjan D. Khambete, an Instrumentation Engineer, received his Master's from IIT, Bombay and PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK, both in Biomedical Engineering. Over the past 30 years, he has focused on Research and Development in Medical Devices, Health Technology Management, quality assurance, patient safety, and Capacity building.
As a Clinical Engineer in a 1000-bed tertiary care hospital, his innovative approach to assessing the quality and safety of medical equipment complements the conventional HTM activities. He has contributed to setting up specialized clinical services, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Intraoperative Neuromonitoring.
He is associated with the Biomedical Engineering Society of India and the Global Clinical Engineering Alliance. He received the WHO's Patient Safety Award (2010) and the American College of Clinical Engineering's Antonio Hernandez International Clinical Engineering Award (2011 ). He has served on the WHO's Expert Committee on Technical Specifications Database for Medical Devices.
Currently, as a member of the Professional Council for Biomedical Engineers and Medical Equipment Technologists, he is involved in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India's initiative on drafting regulations for Allied and Healthcare Professionals of India. He is deeply committed to ensuring increased access to safe, effective and affordable health technologies to patients around the world.
