Paran Sarimita Winarni

Biography

Paran Sarimita Winarni had two times experience with TB. In 2008, based on only X-ray, a doctor in a private health center diagnosed her with sensitive TB drugs. She has to take 2 years of treatment for sensitive TB drugs before finally the doctor told her that she has been cured. In 2012, she felt the same symptoms, and the doctor gave her a double dose. But it didn't cure her at all. And she changed the treatment to the primary health center and they asked her to check the sputum (genexpert) in Persahabatan Hospital. Later, the sputum result stated that she had Resistant TB drugs.

On 28 August 2012, she started MDR TB treatment at the Persahabatan hospital. She took fifteen pills every day and also had injections. She has few side effects like vomiting, nausea for hours, cannot sleep and lose desire to eat. With the support from family and best friends, she can finish the treatment on 25 April 2014.

Since 2014 until now, she has been active as Peer Educator in a patient organization named PETA (Pejuang Tangguh) TB RO Jakarta. Where PETA works is in five districts of DKI Jakarta. PETA activity such as; accompany, motivate, and educate MDR TB patients through Hospital Visit, Primary Health Center Visit and Home visit. Currently Paran is also a member of GCTA (Global Coalition of TB Activist), Vice chair of South East Asia rGLC (Regional Green Light Committee), and initiated Youth Movement Against TB Indonesia (IMUT). Recently she also joined with another global platform such as Civil Society Task Force (CSTF) WHO and The Global Tuberculosis Community Advisory Board (TB CAB).
