Patrick Munywoki
Biography
Patrick Munywoki is an infectious disease epidemiologist based in Nairobi, Kenya. Patrick received his BSc in Nursing Sciences from Moi University, Kenya and MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries from London School of Hygiene of Tropical Medicine, London, UK. He attained a PhD from Open University, UK in 2013 and completed a three-year Postdoctoral training at Kenya Medical Research Institute-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KEMRI-WTRP) in Kilifi, Kenya.
Patrick has over 15 years of research experience and has led several studies delineating the epidemiology and transmission dynamics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and other common and emerging respiratory viruses. His seminal work investigating who infects young infants with RSV through an intensive twice-week sampling regardless of symptoms of household members in coastal Kenya improved our understanding on the role of school-going siblings in introduction and spread of RSV in households.
Patrick’s current interests are in linking evidence from infectious disease epidemiology to public health action. He currently serves on the WHO SAGE Working Group on Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
