Biography

Professor Paul Jagals is specialist consultant in environmental health systems, with special interest in understanding and managing the socio-environmental determinants of environmental health in vulnerable populations (especially children) in the face of complex and uncertain futures.  Paul builds and teaches assessment and management systems (methods and tools) for the health and environment workforces to help vulnerable populations understand and manage 5 key climate and environmental change impact areas within their respective anthropogenic and created environments namely: 1) water resources and supplies; 2) air quality and energy; 3) sanitation and waste (from healthcare, domestic, other); 4) vectors, pests and infectious agents; 5) food safety and security.  Coming into the WPRO region from 3 decades of environmental health management, practice and operational research in Southern Africa, Paul’s involvement, for more than a decade now, have been supporting several Pacific Island States and Territories with strategic and operational policy advising and development, capacity building, information system development and operational research.
